Bali, a tropical paradise that has long been a favorite among Aussies, has finally revealed its allure to me. Despite living in Australia for 30 years, I had never ventured to the Indonesian island, much to the surprise of those around me. But when the opportunity arose, I embarked on a journey that challenged my preconceived notions and left me captivated.
The luxury resort COMO Uma Canggu, nestled near Echo Beach, set the tone for my trip. Its prime oceanfront location, complete with a vast lagoon pool, an on-site spa, and all-day dining, provided the perfect blend of relaxation and indulgence. The spacious one-bedroom residence, complete with a kitchenette, living room, and a king-sized bed, felt like a sanctuary, almost larger than my Sydney rental. The highlight of my stay was the gigantic spa bath, complete with bath salts, ensuring my relaxation was unparalleled.
The COMO Shambala wellness center offered a signature 60-minute full-body massage, a girly's dream come true. The ginger tea, foot bath, and the massage itself were a heavenly experience. The COMO Beach Club's diverse breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, including poolside snacks, catered to every palate. The Sunday brunch, with its beef tartare and truffle mayonnaise, was a culinary masterpiece, designed for sharing and relaxation.
Venturing beyond the resort, we discovered Santanera, a three-storey restaurant just 900 meters away. Its stylish interior and Latin American cuisine, perfectly paired with local produce, exceeded expectations. The trip's pinnacle was the COMO Shambala Estate near Ubud, a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by lush rainforest. Participating in a water purification ceremony, a sacred Balinese Hindu ritual, offered a glimpse into a different Bali, away from the tourist crowds.
The Icon Chain Masterclass at John Hardy Boutique in Seminyak was another unique experience. Learning to hand-weave, solder, and polish the classic bracelet style, followed by a Long Table family-style lunch and an engraved Icon Bracelet, made for a memorable day. These experiences solidified my newfound love for Bali, a destination that offers relaxation, cultural immersion, and unique adventures.
Virgin Australia Holidays, my travel partner, made planning effortless with curated flight and accommodation packages. Their discounted offers and frequent services to Denpasar made Bali accessible and appealing. As I reflect on my journey, I realize that Bali's allure lies not only in its natural beauty but also in the unique experiences it offers, making it a destination that Aussies, and many others, keep returning to.
