The second phase will focus on creating a boutique lifestyle hotel, ground-floor spaces for shops and restaurants, and a pocket park. The Red House and Engine House buildings, designed by Horace Jones in 1886, will become part of the hotel complex. The Fish Market building, a landmark designed by Jones, will be meticulously conserved, ensuring the preservation of its Victorian architecture. This project is a significant part of the 30-year Smithfield/Barbican masterplan, which includes the repurposing of the Meat Market buildings and the revamp of the Barbican Centre.
